Our Steps 2 Summit Story
The Grange Primary School media team is made up of pupils in Year 5 & 6. The school has been delivering the Steps 2 Summit program for the 2018/19 academic year. The children love it so much, that the media team asked if they would be able to produce a short film to share their story.
The film is scripted, recorded, directed and produced by the children in the media team – We simply helped with a little bit of editing!
4 Schools, 6 Pioneers
In Summer 2019, we spent time in a number of Primary Schools that deliver the Steps 2 Summit Program. We chose to focus closely on 4 Schools.
During that time, we sat down with our 6 Pioneers - 3 Head Teachers, 2 PE leads and a School Governor, to find out their thoughts on the Steps 2 Summit program and the impact that they have seen in their schools.
The pioneers share their thoughts on Steps 2 Summit being embedded in the curriculum, the impact of daily physical activity, what they plan to do next and more!
The Head Teacher's View
Steps 2 Summit focusses on improving the physical, social and mental health of children through a whole school program focussed around mountaineers and some of the most iconic mountains in the world.
Zoe Buxton, Head Teacher at Grange Primary School, shares her thoughts on the Steps 2 Summit program. Zoe tells us about the impact she has seen in School, from improved physical activity levels to developing persevering pioneers!

Improving Physical Fitness
Have you ever wondered exactly how the Steps 2 Summit program helps to motivate children to do more physical activity? Well, the answer is really quite simple!
Steps 2 Summit gives you 4 ways to track all physical activity completed by your children. This activity translates into progress towards the summit of the mountain they are virtually exploring.
In this film, we look at each of the 4 tracking methods available and how they work to collate pupil progress into easy to view and understand data for you and your children.
Evaluating the impact
Julie and Helen, the brains behind the lessons, displays and assemblies in Steps 2 Summit, worked closely with a number of schools over the second half of the 2018/19 academic year.
The purpose of the project was to produce a case study on the impact of the program in primary schools.
That case study can be downloaded here
.
At the end of their project, we sat down with a coffee to chat through some of their experiences.
These un-edited short films provide a unique insight into the impact of Steps 2 Summit not only on the schools using it, but also some of the people responsible for creating it.

What's your Everest?
For many adventurers and mountaineers, Mount Everest is the ultimate challenge. We all face challenges every day, and the way that mountaineers prepare and adapt to the challenges they face on Everest can help us to develop the skills we need to face our own daily challenges, no matter how big or small they may be.
As part of the Steps 2 Summit program, children develop Summiteer Skills. These Summiteer Skills are focussed around important life skills such as resilience, perseverance, kindness, honesty and teamwork.
The What's your Everest program challenges children to think about their aspirations and what they want to achieve in the short and long term.
Discover the 8 key areas to ensure a successful implementation in your school.
