2017/18 - What a year it has been for us!

So you’ve sent your reports out, done all of your assessments and completed your transition meetings – but they are still with you! In the back of your mind though, you’ve already moved on to thinking about September. You’ve printed the labels for your nice new books and are looking ahead to the next batch of eager faces - or not as the case may be!

So the million dollar question, how are you going to hook your new class into loving learning? Well look no further.

In the Steps 2 Summit system there are over 100 lessons, 6 assemblies and 6 whole school displays just waiting for you to press print.

Our curriculum subject lessons have now expanded to include those which promote ‘Summiteer Skills’. These are skills which we want to foster in our children, such as; perseverance, honesty, tolerance, kindness, organisation - the kind of stuff that really matters!

The Summiteer skill lessons have been a revelation. We have learnt so much about inspirational mountaineers from diverse backgrounds and with differing abilities, whose stories can teach our children so much. As class teachers, we wish these vital life-skill lessons had been available at the click of a button as they are now. It would have saved hours of researching ideas at 3am in the morning!

As the academic year comes to a close, it’s been lovely to hear about our displays, lessons and assemblies being used in schools. It is really exciting to see how the walking aspect of the project is constantly growing and developing too. Please do share your feedback on Facebook and twitter - we do enjoy reading your lovely feedback!

A highlight of our year has been taking part in the Kilimanjaro climbing challenge. It was really interesting to see the project from a child’s perspective. It made us so much more active and super competitive – messaging each other mid-walk or run to spur each other on (or brag about our achievements!) Our hard work paid off and we both summited Kilimanjaro in the time allocated #ridiculouslyproud #lookingforwardtoEverest.

We are so proud of how the Steps 2 Summit project has grown and it feels great to be at the forefront of something so timely and unique. At present, we seem to be inundated with reports on childhood obesity and what schools are doing to help our children to become more active.

We have been screaming at the television that we have the answer!

Have a great summer x
